Five years ago we returned from Ethiopia with our oldest babe in our arms and started learning how to love in ways we had never experienced before. That love carried us through some of our darkest days over the past four years. We added to the celebration today when we met with a judge to finalize the adoption of our two youngest babes. Feeling grateful for the privilege to share life with these babes.

Fall Discovery
Took these beautiful babes hiking today and realized that the two youngest are experiencing fall for the first time. For all of the moments I have missed out on, I am incredibly grateful for moments like this - when I get to see their curiosity and excitement for a yellow leaf falling from the tree.

Moving Too Quickly
Yes, I realize that one of my children has been in school for a week already, but I'm in denial. I dealt with the denial today when we sent the second one off to preschool. How did my babies get to this place already?!?

One Year Ago Today
A year ago we held these two babes for the first time. I wasn't sure if my heart could stretch anymore, but it did. The few hours we spent with them were beautiful and would carry us through the months of unknown separation and heartache. As their mama I will always treasure those first moments with them and when I was finally able to hold them in my arms.

Still Not Great at This.....
It was a sad sad morning for our little family as we said goodbye to Uncle Jon and wished him well on his next adventure. He will certainly be missed by our crew.

ZOO!
We headed to Denver for some immigration paperwork. Not my favorite thing to deal with on a beautiful summer day, but we decided to make the most of it and take the kids to the zoo. They had a blast and apparently I did too because I only remembered to take one photo!

Exploring the Snowies
Micah took off this morning to ride his bike to Centennial, WY. It's about 30 miles from town and at the base of the Snowy Mountains, so I took advantage of his adventure and loaded the kids up in the car for a day of exploring. We had taken the kids up to the Snowy Mountains once in the spring time, but of course everything was buried in snow so we didn't get too far. This time around, I had to keep asking them to slow down. It was a wonderful hike.
We then picked up Micah and went to explore the area where he has been hunting lately. It was a beautiful area and made me realize that there is still so many areas that I have yet to see even though I live nearby. We hiked over streams, through fields of flowers, along mossy paths and in the shadows of the pine trees. Did I mention it was beautiful? It was without a doubt one of my favorite hikes this summer.

An Eventful Day
We started our morning early watching Mr. M in his soccer tournament....
And we ended the day meeting our newest family member! I felt so fortunate to hold this beautiful bundle in my arms within the first 12 hours of her life and can't wait to see our niece grow.

12 Years
Twelve years ago today I married my best friend. On that day, I never would've imagined that our lives would encompass all that they do now. The past year has been difficult and has stretched us to our limits, has brought us to our knees, has made us question our strength to make it through another day. Although I do not necessarily want to walk this difficult road again, I am so thankful that through it all I have been reminded over and over how fortunate I am to be married to Micah. He has seen me at my worst and carried me through some of my darkest days and for that I will be forever grateful.

Lander Adventures
I had to travel to Lander for work this week and I couldn't bear the thought of leaving my family behind - especially since it was the week of G's birthday. Thankfully they were willing to tag along and occupy themselves with some hiking while I spent the day working.

Happy Birthday G!
One year ago, we lit a candle honoring G on his birthday and spent the day missing him terribly. This year we lit three candles, covered him in kisses and spent the day celebrating the life of our youngest babe. Love you G and am so grateful to be your mama.

Investing in Their Health
With the weather warming up more each day, we are spending more and more time outside. The kids have enjoyed a few hikes already this summer, but they continue to amaze me with the joy that bubbles up within them each time we leave the pavement behind and plant our feet on the soil.
“Time in nature is not leisure time; it's an essential investment in our children's health (and also, by the way, in our own).”

Home
We took a drive today and headed up into the mountains for a hike. It was a beautiful way to spend our afternoon: spending time outside, seeing my kids breathe deeply again as they take off running to explore, gaining a few moments of silence, catching a few glimpses of my husband as he wanders through the trees. These moments bring me a strong sense of peace and an enormous amount of gratitude.
As we were heading back into town the song "Home" was playing on the radio. Maybe it was the magic of the afternoon. Maybe it was the two semesters of studying music therapy kicking in, but I suddenly found myself weeping as I listened to the lyrics and realized that this song was actually offering words to my unspoken prayers over the past five months as we navigate life with the three babes. We have been attempting to navigate our way through this uncharted territory that has been full of moments when each one of us is paralyzed with fear from some "demon" that is rising up within us. Those moments rarely come with a clear direction as to what we should be doing next, so more often then not we hunker down and try to wrap our arms around each other, as walls are torn down and trust in family hopefully becomes a little easier to hold onto.

Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave (wave) is stringing us along
Just know you're not alone
Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
You get lost, you can always be found
Just know you're not alone
Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo. Oo-oo-oo-oo [x2]
Aaa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aa. Aa-aa-aa-aaaaaa [x4]

Reflecting
A little over a year ago these two had wedged their way into my heart and changed the course of life as I knew it. So much has changed as a result of them entering into our lives - and I know that had they not made their way to me, I would still be living in those same deep ruts of comfort in routine and convenience (and let's be honest - selfishness). My children are teaching me so much about myself and challenging me to face those ugly sides that have hung around all these years in the back of my closet.

Pondering
I wish we could all stop looking to the horizon for beauty and find it near us, all around us, profoundly close to us in the hearts and faces we meet each day.
I wish my heart would never stop softening, never tire of breaking, never quit believing for one second that every human matters.
All we need is more love.
The good news? We grow it the same way we grow peas and peppers.
We grow it by planting it.
~Flower Patch Farmgirl

Yesterday was three months since we brought the youngest babes home - Today we celebrated by cooking up some delicious Ethiopian food. These past three months have brought about a lot of change on so many different levels, and at the end of the day I am still overwhelmed that I was given the privilege to being their mama.
